Friends of Arlo, in Conversation with Nandar from Mudhouse.

For the first episode of Friends of Arlo, we sat down with Nandar, the ceramic artist and founder behind Mudhouse, to talk about pottery, throw-wheeling, and what led her to open her own studio.

Mudhouse is built on a deep respect for process. Nandar's practice centres around the wheel, a method that requires patience and focus. Each piece begins as raw clay and is shaped slowly by hand, responding to pressure, movement and timing.

During our conversation, Nandar shared how throw-wheeling became more than a technique. It became a way of working that values presence and intention. The wheel demands attention, and the outcome reflects the maker's state in that moment.

We also spoke about the decision to open Mudhouse. For Nandar, it was about creating a dedicated space to work consistently and intentionally, without being driven by trends or scale. Mudhouse grew from a desire to slow down, to build something sustainable and to allow the work to evolve naturally through time.

Friends of Arlo is a series focused on the people behind the work, creatives who value craft and purpose. Sitting down with Nandar set the foundation for the series; honest conversations that highlight the importance of process and personal connection to making.
